Advisory Services

We provide editorial legal guidance to clients on an ad hoc or retained basis. This includes:

• a pre-publication copy-checking service for clients concerned about possible legal problems in their publication, broadcast or website.
• assisting publishers and broadcasters with letters and representations to be made to oppose court orders or gain access to hearings.
• These services can be offered to organisations at a board level where editorial legal expertise is needed.

Please note this is not a replacement for legal representation if you have received a legal complaint – but good editorial decisions at an early stage can often avoid costly legal consequences.

External Ombudsman Services

Some publishers need an external adjudicator to rule on complaints concerning ethical and other issues. We provide this service, bringing years’ of experience in media ethics.

We can handle a readers’ complaint from initial email or letter, through investigation and adjudication, providing written documentation of our investigation, outcome and any suggested remedial action. The service is quick and aimed at avoiding costly and time-consuming legal action.
